Recommendations for challenges that parents are facing at home/school
Having a tailor made program can benefit a child who faces social and behavioural challenges. Following a background history and an in-depth parental interview to assess each child’s strengths and areas of need, goals are made, and we assist the child in reaching these goals through a 6-8 week program. Interventions which target these factors help the child to better cope in school and daily life. Parents/educators can support with their child’s/student’s behaviour and other people to interact positively with the child/student.
During group sessions, the children participate in multiple tasks/activities while focusing on social-communication & play, cognitive, and circle/group. Each child has social skill goals that he or she works on during the weekly sessions. The children get the opportunity to practice their skills with their peers along with adult support and encouragement. Skills are taught through the use of modeling, role playing, visual supports and teaching.
Being a parent of a child with educational, behavioural, social-emotional or mental health challenges can be overwhelming. Your child's behaviours may be tough, and you may not understand what the behaviour really means. I provide customized recommendations and understanding for parents of children with special needs. Helping parents navigate the world surrounding your child's differences by offering support and encouragement.
I offer a complimentary consultation service to go over the process with the parents/caregivers and their family. This consultation can be a phone call, zoom meeting or email based, to explain a little bit about the services that can be provided and to get a brief background about the client. After this initial consultation, if families are wanting to continue to find an appropriate service for their needs, we will set up a date and time for the initial intake meeting.
Fees range from $75/hour and vary as a function of services provided.
